Raquel Albarran was born in Puerto Rico and has been a member of LAND Gallery since 2016. Her work celebrates the human form through a perceptive and specific interest in bodies and food. Her process includes detailed drawings that act as a roadmap for creating her strange and endearing sculptures. With the adorable and repulsive side by side, Albarran’s works both charm and surprise. “I make something disgusting,” Albarran says, “and it ends up being cute.” Bright and mischievous, her drawings utilize vivid colors and a strong line to depict strange, delightful, and humorous scenes. Albarran’s clear vision, energy and articulate sensibilities are celebrated by many collectors.
